Fontwerks Unmounted Stamps:
So who has been eyeing off these gorgeous stamps? Well don't hesitate, go grab some today, cause they are just so cool and so much fun! I've been wanting to use them on every layout since I got them!
At first I was a little unsure as to how to use them, as they are unmounted. But I soon had the solution. In my stash I had a clear acrylic block which was perfect. Any solid piece of plastic or acrylic will do. Now all I needed to do was to be able to adhere them temporarily to it. A friend suggested a glue which makes things removable (she called it ‘on off glue’ but I’m not sure if that’s what its actual name is) which is available from Spotlight etc.
After I had painted the glue on and let it dry, I cut around the designs as close to the actual shape as I could. This makes it easier when positioning the image on your work.
To store your stamps when not in use, just place them in a small plastic clip folder.
There are so many ways to use these stamps to achieve different effects, but here are just 2 examples:
"Sweet, Fabulous"
This one was heaps of fun! I stamped a variety of images onto white cardstock with Black Stazon ink. Then to add colour, I simply coloured the images in with my watercolour pencils to bring them to life. Then cut each shape out by hand and position them randomly around your photo for a "Freestyle" look.
"Jacob Turns One"
Want the look of handstitching but don’t have the time or patience? Never fear, there is always an alternative! I really love the Doodlebug Stitches Rub ons, but I didn’t have enough left in my supplies to do what I wanted to on this layout, so I improvised and grabbed my white gel pen and drew my own "stitches". Easy!
"Little Miss Princess"
I have a serious ribbon addiction! But I have found that I am not using them as fast as I am collecting them, so I wanted to do something about it. (I figure if I use some up I can justify getting some more!) On this layout I just grabbed a heap of various ribbons that ‘blended’ together, cut strips of them, stuck them across the page and created a fancy photo mat. As I was wanting to use them up and not conserve them, I put whole strips under the photo, not 2 little pieces on each side. So don’t be afraid to use your stash. With so much fantastic new stuff coming out all the time, you might as well use it all!
"True Love"
I simply used Staz On Ink to leave a subtle image on the Kraft cardstock, and by repeating the stamp across the page, both top and bottom, you can create a cute border.

"Daddy Survival Kit"
I created this little tin as a "helper" for my husband when he takes our tribe out on his own to places such as church or shopping centres. It houses Tic Tacs, Bandaids, a mini Smarties packet AND Panadol!!! All the things that should defuse a situation with the kids!
Start by wrapping a strip of patterned paper around tin using double sided tape. Cut a small square to cover up the "seam" and attach. Sand photo and attach to the back of the tin, place rubons onto both sides to create title and accents. Using a journalling pen, doodle around title and accents. Handwrite journalling "in case of emergency eat contents" onto tag. Wrap fabric around handle and tie on tag. Insert contents into tin - give to hubby!

|
For this newsletter I have completed three layouts primarily using floral embellishments - and without patterned paper. Look, I just love flowers, and having three girls - well- what can I say! It was heaps of fun – give it a go! Use those flowers- EVERYWHERE!
Using manufactured paper flowers
“Pretty As A Picture”
In this layout I have used pre made paper flowers (all the work is done for you). But I still added some machine stitching around the edge of two and of course the centres. I also bent them up a little to add some dimension and attached them with 3D mounting tape to make them ‘pop’ from the page! Nothing too cutting edge in this layout - but it still tells the story and is sweet ( well I think so).
Products Used:
Cardstock: Light Sky Bazzill, Dark Butter Bazzill, Pinecone Bazzill
Sassafras Lass Sew Fine Diecut Monograms and Sew Fine Diecut Blooms, Foam Layering Tape
Using silk flowers
“New Haircut”
In this layout, I have used half a packet of the large flowers and nearly the entire packet of the smaller flowers, so I could make a complete floral background. I chose a photo to go with my layout (instead of the photo first), so I chose a photo with enough ‘white space’ to journal directly onto the photo, so I didn’t have to leave space for journalling on the background. I did this in Photoshop Elements, but it could also be done by hand using a permanent marker.
Products Used:
Dark Sky Bazzill Cardstock
Heidi Swapp Small Florals Yellow, Large Florals Orange, Floral Centers Large Pumpkin, Centre of Attention Alphabet sheets Pumpkin (“M”) jewellery tag.
Using handmade flowers and stuff you would through away
“Lips”
In thislayout, I used the large Big Board Flower negative to trace and make the denim flowers. I also used one of the medium sized ones to do the same. So, don’t throw the negatives out - they come in very handy as a template. Speaking of not throwing things out - I also used the packaging from the Making Memories Vintage Hip range as my journalling tag and wrote on it with a ‘sharpie’ pen (find these at the supermarket). So this layout is an example of using what you perhaps would otherwise throw out.
Products Used:
Fulmar Blue cardstock,
Big Board Florals, Making Memories Denim Petals, Denim Fabric, Heidi Swapp Ocean Photo Corners, packaging from the Making Memories Vintage Hip range (tag)

When I was asked to be a guest DT member for the month after the excitement and jumping round the house making DH think I had finally gone off the planet, I had two missions, 1 to do boy layouts and 2 to push the product as far as it could go to be cost effective. Why?, I’m stingy LOL and to try and show those of us with boys that you can make your own embellishments with chipboard etc to compensate for the lake of “boy stuff” available. I also tried to avoid “blues” as there is so much more browns, reds and greens available to take advantage of.

"Grandfather Card"
I wanted to whip up something quick and make a “boy” card with the scraps from the LO and tin. The triangles were cut offs from the diamond shapes on the tin. I made staggered squares out of them and glued them to the card with Mono Aqua glue. I wish I had used tape as I don’t like the little bit of glue marks on the card, but I was going for quick. I added the twill and Basic Grey buckle which I painted gold. The edges of the card were “inked” with the gold paint and the gold paint lightly brushed over the cardstock between the squares. All applied with a MM sponge brush. I then finally applied the rub on “Granddad” to finish it off. In total I think it was 10 minutes to make the card. Quick to do and got rid of all those annoying scraps that you would normally throw out.

"When I Grow Up"
For this LO I used two 8 ½ by 11 inch pieces of cardstock and laid them together in the landscape position. I then laid my photos either end to get an idea as to the size of my area to place the title in the middle. I then laid the raw chipboard down to also get the idea of the middle section. Once happy with how the title would look I then cut out the Patterned Paper to be the background for the title. I stuck the two pieces of PP down I then turned the LO over so I could see the join and sliced it in to with a craft knife.
I then machine stitched the around the edges of the PP. I didn’t stitch before cutting as I didn’t want the edges of the stitching to unravel so did it as two separate halves so they could be tied of and secured. I then stuck down the two backing pieces of cardstock either end of the LO to go behind the photos. These were also machine stitched. For the photo mats I cut 1cm wide pieces of PP and used mitered corners to
make the photo mat. I then with a messy look machine stitched these to a piece of cardstock, folded in half as a “book” for the hidden journaling. I cut the cardstock slightly smaller than the matted photo as to be completely hidden. The eyelets and ribbon were added & I then matted all of the painted chipboard to brown cardstock just to lift the title from the pattered paper. I then covered the stars and diamond chipboard shapes with PP and sanded the edges. The tag to the photos were also painted and sanded. Finally I added the rub ons and journaling to the inside of the photo mats. All of the edges of the patterned paper had been inked to add extra definition to the edges of the PP.

"Boy Stuff Tin"
My little boy Mitch loves carrying his Matchbox trucks around in things and I wanted to decorate a tin for him to store them in. First of all I covered the tin in brown cardstock. This can be tricky as the handle does not come off. So the cardstock had to be done in two pieces around the tin and cut outs made for the handle. To disguise the big join around the middle I cut diamonds out of the
paper to place around the tin. This gave a nice blend of paper and bare cardstock to place rub ons. Before adhering the diamonds to the paper, I machine stitched them. I then printed out the title onto plain paper and used this as a template to cut out the letters from the paper. I then adhered them to the top of the tin. I sanded the white edges of the tin that were exposed and inked these with chocolate ink. I then applied the rub ons to the top and sides of the tin. To give the tin more durability and to stop little boys wanting to rip
off all the bits of patterned paper I thought coating it in lacquer would be the go. I took myself off to get the lacquer and after consulting the “expert” was told to get a spray craft lacquer. Unfortunately the Cardstock and paper just soaks it up and the rub ons bubble. Thankfully they flattened out again (phew), but to get the protection that it needs I think a lacquer/sealer that you paint on will need to be applied. At the time of the newsletter going to print I hadn’t tried it. However after much discussion with DH it needs to be done in stages to avoid running and pooling of the lacquer. Mitchell is still lusting after the tin.
